Thiala Alves, PsyD

Thiala Alves, PsyD is a trilingual (Portuguese, Spanish, English) neuropsychology postdoctoral fellow with pediatric neuropsychology experience in both medical and private practice settings. She currently is engaged in postdoctoral training at The Chesapeake Center, under the supervision of Drs. Chase, Mahaney, and Van Ost. Previously, she was a neuropsychology postdoctoral fellow at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, a rehabilitation hospital in Baltimore affiliated with Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland. Dr. Alves also participates in postdoctoral training at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, where she continues to expand her knowledge related to the assessment and treatment of neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive conditions.
Dr. Alves works with individuals with a variety of psychiatric issues, including anxiety, depression, and behavioral concerns. Her psychotherapeutic approach includes cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation and pain management techniques, and interpersonal psychotherapy.
Education and Training:
Dr. Alves received her doctoral degree in clinical psychology, with an emphasis in neuropsychology, from Albizu University, in Florida. She completed her predoctoral neuropsychology internship at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, an APA-approved program that follows Division 40 and Houston guidelines for neuropsychological training. Prior to internship, she received two years of training at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL, a Level 1 Trauma hospital, where she worked closely with both children and adults, providing psychotherapy and conducting neuropsychological evaluations.
