Autism Spectrum Evaluations By Dr. Kara Goobic Dr. Kara Goobic conducts autism spectrum evaluations utilizing the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), an observational measure used to “press” for social and communicative behaviors that are often delayed, abnormal, or absent in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD’s) (Autism Spectrum Disorders: Pervasive Developmental Disorders – NIH Publication No. 06-5511). These evaluations can be administered to anyone over the age of 2 years. An adult, for example, suspecting that he or she may have an autism spectrum disorder, can be assessed by Dr. Goobic for an ASD. The ADOS is used in conjunction with other measures, including the Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised (ADI-R), the Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ), and the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales. Dr. Goobic also obtains a detailed developmental history from the parent (s), or primary caretaker. As part of the evaluation, individuals also need to be referred for a formal audiologic hearing screening and medical evaluation to rule out hearing loss or other medical conditions. Intelligence testing results are required for the evaluation. Test results from other providers can be used as part of the assessment, or the individual can be referred to one of our staff to obtain these results. |
